Commissioning

How I helped improve the team's understanding of users

Context

Commissioning in oil & gas ensures all components are installed, maintained, and ready by launch. Traditionally, this was managed on paper, leading to bulky notebooks and inefficient workflows.

Challenge

To streamline operations, Certificare was launched as a digital platform to centralize commissioning data and replace paper-based workflows.
A key UX challenge was designing for a diverse user base across Brazil, South Korea, and Singapore. Each with different roles, needs, and cultural contexts.

Actions

When I joined, the project was already ongoing, but key decisions were being made based on assumptions. The team had limited insight into real commissioning workflows.

To close that gap, we led a series of UX research initiatives: surveys, interviews, focus groups, usability testing, and field studies.

Field research was a game-changer. Observing users in action revealed critical gaps between assumptions and reality. UX Research findings reshaped the team's understanding and directly informed product strategy, driving the development of high-impact features.
